Kelly Thompson has been the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Roger Williams University (RWU) since 2010, where she also serves as an Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator. 

Thompson is the winningest coach in RWU history, boasting an impressive .692 win percentage. Under her leadership, the Hawks have made four NCAA Tournament appearances and secured multiple Conference of New England Championships. She has coached one WBCA All-American and 35 All-Conference players during her tenure at RWU. 

Before her time at Roger Williams, Thompson was an Assistant Coach at Stonehill College, contributing to five consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances for the Skyhawks. She also held roles as Head Coach and Sports Information Director at Division III Russell Sage College and as an Assistant Coach at Maine Maritime Academy. 

Thompson’s commitment to the sport extends beyond the sidelines. She serves on the Division III NCAA Women’s Basketball Committee and is an active member of the WBCA. As a coach, she emphasizes building meaningful relationships with her players and staff, centering her approach on character, passion, and selflessness. 

As a collegiate athlete, Thompson was a standout player at Springfield College, earning WBCA Honorable Mention All-American and NSCA All-American honors. She was also named NEWMAC Player of the Year, leading her team to two NEWMAC championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. She has a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from Springfield, and completed her master’s degree in Sports Leadership at Northeastern University. 

Beyond her coaching duties, Thompson is deeply involved in the Bristol, RI community. Through her RWU program, she offers clinics, leagues, and individual lessons for youth, aiming to foster basketball development in the area. She notes, “Having directed the East Bay Swarm for a year now, I couldn’t be prouder of how our program is taking root and growing. Swarm’s emphasis on real player development paired with an understanding of family needs has truly set us apart. In our first year together, we’ve worked hard to give local players the platform they deserve and fill a long-standing void in East Bay basketball. We’re heading in a great direction, and I can’t wait to build on this momentum."

Kelly lives in Bristol, RI, with her wife, Kaitlyn, and their two children, Makenna and Brennan. 

Coach Kaitlyn O’Malley brings a wealth of high-level basketball experience and a deep commitment to player development to the East Bay Swarm.

A standout four-year player at Stonehill College (NCAA Division II), Kaitlyn helped lead the Skyhawks to back-to-back 20-win seasons and multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, culminating in a run to the Regional Championship game in 2003. She transitioned directly into coaching following her playing career, serving as an assistant coach at Stonehill for one season before spending two years as an assistant coach at WPI.

In addition to her coaching background, Kaitlyn holds a Master’s in Education from UMass Boston and spent over a decade working in collegiate athletic administration and student-athlete success. 

Currently the Deputy Athletic Director at Stonehill College, she is passionate about building strong fundamentals, teaching the game, and helping young athletes grow in confidence, teamwork, and leadership on and off the court.
